PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are expected to conform to the following:

POSITION PURPOSE
The employee in this position assists in supervising activities in the pool during his/her shift at the Cultural Center. The employee should possess an ability to get along with citizens of all ages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Open the pool each day and close it down each evening, depending on schedule and hours.
- Treat the pool with appropriate concentration of chemicals on a regular schedule.
- Check all safety equipment when coming on duty and report any unsafe conditions to the Manager.
- Monitor pool-related activities closely throughout shift and identify any safety issues.
- Enforce pool rules in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions.
- Monitor weather reports closely to ensure safety of guests.
- Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool.
- Assist patrons when appropriate or necessary.
- Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical service.
- Performs appropriate water rescues when necessary.
- Receives food and beverage orders from guests.
- Serves food and beverage items in correct proportions, following proper sanitation guidelines.
- Produces hot menu items safely and consistently.
- Completes daily inventory forms accurately.
- Provides customer service to members and guests and reports complaints to the supervisor.
- Performs clean-up duties in the stand to maintain the quality appearance of the work area, including cleaning and storing equipment.
- Properly records all transactions via the point of sale system and informs guests of the amounts owed, includes all cash and credit card transactions.
- Keep facility and grounds clean and sanitary including bathrooms daily.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- 2+ years’ lifeguard experience preferred
- High School Diploma
- Must possess and maintain current and valid American Red Cross certification, First Aid and CPR certifications.
- The employee must be able to pass pre-employment practical skills test in the water.
- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Commitment to team working, and respect and consideration for the skills of others.
- Excellent communication skills when dealing with the public.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Adequate hand-eye coordinator and a normal range of hearing and vision alike are required.
- Should be able to work flexible hours including days, weekends, and holidays.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time.
Physical demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with patients, vendors and staff.
Mental demands:
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

This position is subject to a criminal history background check, and a Motor Vehicle check. Candidates must successfully pass all required background checks in order to qualify for this position.
